Savannah State University (SSU) is a public, historically black university located in Savannah, Georgia. Founded in 1890, SSU is the oldest public historically black college in the state and the oldest institution of higher learning in the city. With a student population of around 3,500, SSU offers a wide range of degree programs, including business, engineering, education, and the sciences. In addition to its academic programs, SSU is also known for its athletic programs. The university is a member of the NCAA Division I and competes in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
