Shaw University in Raleigh, NC is a historically black university that has been educating and empowering students for over 150 years. Located in the heart of downtown Raleigh, Shaw University offers a wide range of academic programs, and is also home to a vibrant and successful athletics program.
Shaw University’s athletic teams, known as the Bears, compete in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). The Bears have a proud tradition of success, having won multiple CIAA championships in various sports. The men’s basketball team has been particularly successful, having won the CIAA tournament title in 2014 and 2015. The Bears also have a successful track and field program, and have won multiple CIAA titles in that sport as well.
In addition to the CIAA, Shaw University also competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Bears have had success in the NAIA as well, winning the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship in 2011.
Shaw University also offers a wide range of intramural sports for students to participate in. These sports include basketball, flag football, soccer, softball, and volleyball. Intramural sports provide students with an opportunity to stay active and have fun while competing against their peers.
