Southern Methodist University (SMU) is a private university located in Dallas, Texas. Founded in 1911, SMU is one of the oldest universities in the state and is known for its rigorous academics and strong athletics programs. SMU is a member of the NCAA Division I American Athletic Conference and fields 17 varsity sports teams. The school’s most successful program is men’s basketball, which has won two conference championships and made two Final Four appearances. The men’s basketball team is currently coached by Tim Jankovich and plays its home games at Moody Coliseum. The SMU Mustangs football team is another popular program at the university.
