Southern University & A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is a historically black university that offers a variety of educational opportunities. Founded in 1880, Southern University & A&M College is the only historically black university in the state of Louisiana. The university offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines.
Southern University & A&M College is also known for its athletic programs. The university is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and competes in NCAA Division I. The university fields teams in football, basketball, baseball, softball, track and field, tennis, golf, and volleyball. The university’s football team has won eight SWAC championships and has made three appearances in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs. The basketball team has won five SWAC championships and has made two appearances in the NCAA Division I tournament.
The university also offers a variety of intramural sports, including basketball, flag football, soccer, softball, and volleyball. The university also offers a variety of club sports, including rugby, lacrosse, and ultimate frisbee.
