Virginia Union University – Richmond, VA

Virginia Union University (VUU) is a historically black university located in Richmond, Virginia. Founded in 1865, VUU is one of the oldest universities in the United States and has a long and proud history of providing quality education to African-American students. VUU offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, including business, education, nursing, and social work. The university is also home to several research centers, including the Center for African-American Studies and the Center for Social Justice. In addition to its academic programs, VUU also offers a wide range of athletic opportunities. The university is a member of the NCAA Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and fields teams in men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field. The VUU Panthers are a perennial powerhouse in the CIAA, having won numerous conference championships over the years. The men’s basketball team has won seven CIAA titles, while the women’s team has won four. The Panthers have also produced several professional athletes, including NBA Hall of Famer Earl Monroe and NFL Hall of Famer Art Shell. At VUU, student-athletes are encouraged to excel both on and off the field. The university provides academic support services to help athletes stay on track with their studies, and the athletic department also provides mentorship and leadership programs to help students develop both personally and professionally.
