Xavier University of Louisiana is a private, historically black Catholic university located in New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, Xavier is the only Catholic HBCU (Historically Black College or University) in the United States. The university is dedicated to the education of African-American youth and provides a quality education in a faith-based environment. The team has made the NCAA Tournament three times and has had numerous players drafted by Major League Baseball teams. The Xavier University softball team has also been successful, winning the SWAC championship four times. The team has made the NCAA Tournament three times and has had numerous players drafted by professional softball teams. The Xavier University track and field team has also had success, winning the SWAC championship four times. The team has had numerous athletes compete in the NCAA Championships and has produced numerous Olympic athletes.
